Sabarimala (Kerala): Devaswom minister V S Shivakumar has announced that Sabarimala temple will soon get its exclusive safety manual to ensure a smooth pilgrimage from the coming season. Speaking to the media after darshan at the temple, the minister said that the manual will be prepared by the state police department, and would include restoration, renovation, and modification of all the places related to the pilgrimage like Sabarimala, Pampa, Erumeli, and all the connecting roads.
Giving top priority to the manual to be ready by the upcoming season, a special cell has been established under the responsibility of Additional Chief Secretary as well as a monitoring cell under the vigilance of Devaswom minister.
Master plans like 50 solar powered emergency lamps in Pulmedu, as well as a much needed sewage treatment plant are included. The parking lot at Nilaykkal will be spruced up with metal at the earliest. The Kerala State government has allocated up to 100 crores for the repair and renovation of all main roads and connecting roads that lead to Sabarimala. A suggestion to allow only KSRTC buses to ply between Pampa and Nilaykkal during the mandala season will be decided after detailed discussions between concerned authorities. The minister informed that he has called for a special meeting with all relevant department heads next month to evaluate the progress of all activities that have been undertaken.
Seeking the co-operation and guidance of other Devaswom boards, a special meeting involving Devaswom ministers from other South Indian states is also likely to be held soon, said the minister who was accompanied by other members of Devaswom board like Adv. M Rajagopalan Nair (President), K Cicily (Board member), H Panchapakesan (Special Commissioner), and N Vasu (Commissioner).
