Islamabad: An anti-corruption court in Pakistan sentenced former Pakistan President Nawaz Sharif to seven years in jail along with a fine of 25 lakhs dollar and ordered to take him into the custody. He will be moved to jail today itself. He can move for an appeal.
Charged with acquisition of assets disproportionate to his known income, corruption, evasion of tax and hiding foreign investments the former PM was acquitted by the court in one case.
As his party followers gathered in front of the Court complex, security was beefed up around the court. In another case he was initially sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the court but the Supreme Court of Pakistan later granted bail to him.
