New Delhi: A division bench of the Supreme Court headed by Ranjan Gogoi, Chief justice of India, directed the Election Commission on Monday to watch PM Narendra Modi biopic and then submit their final decision over its release by April 22 in a sealed cover. The Court also directed the producers to arrange a separate show for the Election Commission.
The makers of the film, headlined by Vivek Oberoi, who stars in and as Narendra Modi, had moved the SC after its screening was banned by the Election Commission last week citing a violation of the Model code of conduct. The Commission, in a separate order, had also directed the producers not to exhibit the film till further orders. The film was set to release on April 5.
The Congress and the Left had opposed the release of the film based on the life of PM Modi, saying it was a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
